Bat & bird pest control using ultrasonic and sonic devices
Bat & bird pest control may be performed using various ultrasonic and sonic devices available on the market. Although researchers have shown that ultrasonic devices do not effectively repel or eliminate pests from homes, some of those seem to work.
Bats use echo-location for orienting in the dark and they have a highly developed "ultrasonic" hearing capability. Although all bats are protected species and cannot be harmed or killed, sometimes they become pests by creating a health problem with their droppings and have to be relocated. In such cases different ultrasonic or ultrasonic-sonic devices can be used to repel them. There are also companies offering bat bird pest control programs and methods depending on one‘s problem.
Pigeons, starlings, sparrows, gulls, woodpeckers, crows, blackbirds, grackles or geese may be targeted by artificial species-specific sounds imitating those that birds use when they are in danger. Birds become agitated and disoriented and flee the area as soon as possible. Such bird repellers usually create a series of intense, variable pitch ultrasonic and sonic sound waves that pest bat or bird species can‘t get used to.
Some moth species also react to the ultrasonic sound waves as they think that an insect-eating bat is nearby. The moth then drops down to avoid being eaten.
Several names of bat & bird pest control devices are as follows: Bird-X, Bird & Bat Control, Yard Gard, BirdXPeller and many others.
